Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
How long is a typical therapy session?
Typical sessions run 30 minutes in length but can change depending on assessed need.

What Does a Therapy Session Look Like?
Therapy looks different for each client. Length and frequency of sessions vary from person to person taking into account age, attention skills, the type and severity of disorder and personal needs.
Our sessions are designed to reinforce what was mastered from previous sessions and to build skills to the next level. We often start with a review of the homework and then we move into activities that target your current goals.
At the end, new homework is reviewed and a review of the session will be discussed with parents/caregivers.
How long does therapy last?
Length of therapy varies depending on each individuals needs. Prior to beginning services, we create meaningful and measurable goals with input from you that guide the course of therapy. We will review goals with you as part of scheduled progress report typically at the 6 month mark. If further therapy is warranted we will make an appropriate recommendation at that time. In addition, client-therapist collaboration is key to the success of the therapy and thus we are always happy to meet at more frequent intervals.
What is the difference between speech and language?
Speech refers to the actual sound of spoken language. It is the ability to produce individual speech sounds which involve the structure and function of the lips, tongue, and jaw to move in a very precise and coordinated way to produce the recognizable sounds that make up language. Language refers to a whole system of words and symbols—written, spoken or expressed with gestures and body language—that is used to communicate meaning such as listening and comprehending what someone is saying, to then creating your own thoughts and communicating those with others.
My child has an IEP through the school system, can you still see them?
Please bring your child’s IEP with you. We would be more than happy to discuss and collaborate with the school.
